After two days of painting and countless highlights I finished my Emperors Children Champion. He will be the Leader / Commander of my Slaanesh Killteam and count as Lucius the Eternal in 40K (in case I should have an army someday ;-P).
I tried a new technique on the daemonic whip and created some drool with UHU glue. Afterwards it was painted with Vallejo's Game Effects Dried Blood and Fresh Blood and I really like the result. I actually wanted to paint some ornaments on the legs, but I couldn't achive the desired look and kept the armour black. Maybe I'll try it again when my freehand skills are improved. But for now, I present you my Champion in all his glory.
Thanks a lot for your visit, feel welcome to comment and hail the Dark Prince.
The finished conversion is looking fantastic -- a perfect counts-as Lucius! I also love the paintjob for the most part, although I'd say the lack of contrast on the lower half is a bit of a problem: If I were you, I would at least try to pick out the kneepads in purple/pink and/or use the loincloth as a bit of contrast (it would have to be made of flayed skin or silk, obviously).
ReplyDeleteAs for the freehand symbols, here's a piece of advice that might help you: After trying - unsuccessfully - for years to get good at freehanding symbols, small script etc., I followe Jeff Vader's suggestion and got myself a 0,05 mm Staedtler micropen, and I have never looked back since -- in fact, I found an even better 0,03 mm model just the other day. You should definitely give this approach a try. It won't solve all of your freehanding needs, but it's an invaluable tool when it comes to creating designs in black.
As always, keep up the fantastic work! :)

Thanks a lot mate.
DeleteThe lack of contrast is a bit of a problem, indeed. I actually wanted to paint pink ornamentation-lines on the legs and kneepads, to solove both problems. And I'm sure I will give it a second try ;-). The grey loincloth was choosen to achive a uniformed look next to the cultists.
The Micropen sounds interesting and I should definitly give it a try.
Best regards!
I think he looks great. The change to the sword was good advice, well taken. I've seen the UHU trick before but not tried it. Did you put a blob on the model and pull it too make strings or place the glue on a palette first? Personally I like the model as is. The eye is drawn to the head and arm first. For me the rest of the detail compliments these details without overpowering. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
DeleteThe UHU trick was actually pretty simple. I opened the glue and used the mighty toothpick tool (https://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2018/12/tutorial-36-chambers-to-master-your.html) to get a very small drop from the top. You don't need much, so no need to put it on a palette. But be aware of the filaments ;-)
Best regards!
I'll give that a try. Big fan of the humble toothpick, but that link gave me a few more ideas on it's further uses in the hobby world. With plenty of Plague Marines to paint I thick some custom made goo might be in order.:)
