Tutorial - Namorra Prime Bases

I tried to create some matching bases for my Namorra Pime Terrain. My approach was to combine a lot of the techniques I used for the terrain and keep things rather easy. Ok, some may appear a bit complicated at first glance, but they aren't. Without further ado, let's start.

1. Create your desired surface.
I used various cork pieces which are glued on with superglue.
2. Apply PVA and bring on some sand
Soak the Bases with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (to break the surface tension)
and soak them again with a PVA mix (3 Parts Water, 1 Part PVA, 2-3 drops of dish soap).
When this is dry you'll have a very hard, durable and solid surface!
 3. Add Foliage (mine is from BUSCH) with superglue
You can do this directly after apllying the sand
Soak the foliage with 99% Isopropyl and the PVA mix.
 5. Maybe you want to make a few corrections or smoothen transitions
I used a texture paint  for this, but you could also do it with sand and PVA.
6. Prime the Bases with Black Primer
7. Apply the first base colour.
Vallejo's 145 Ger. Cam. Med. Brown was the closest match I could find.
The colour is applied very, very diluted (with water). Maybe you'll need 2 layers.
8. Mix the brown with white and drybrush the surface.
9. Paint (stipple) the foliage with Vallejo's 143 Flat Earth
10. Mix the Flat Earth with white and highlight the foliage.
11. For the next step we have to create some moss.
This should replace the static grass, which I used on the terain.
First you need some Flockage (I used Medium Brown from NOCH )
...add a tiny amount of pigments.
 ...add some PVA glue...
 ...add water...
 ... and mix it.
Now you can apply it randomly with a brush...
 ...and let it dry completely.
12. Apply some dry pigments with an old brush
13. Sprinkle on some crushed leaves (no glue required)
Soak the surface with 99% Isoprpyl and the PVA mix
 Let it dry again.
(it's annoying, I know)
14. Now we have to create our own little shrubs.
You need some fake leaves...
...and mix the three different red tones.
...You also need a seefoam tree...
 ...primed black...
...and paint it in a light brown
(I recommend an airbrush for this step)
Add some pure PVA spots to the branches and dip it into the leaves.
Now you can use superglue to add these shrubs to your bases.

At this stage you my wonder about a rather shiny look.
But no worries, we are going to fix this now ;-)

14. Add some dry pigments (not too much)
15. Paint the rim of the bases black
 16. Seal the bases with a matte varnish
17. Lean back and grin after you've placed your minis on these bases.

Thank you very much for your visit. Feel welcome to comment and stay tuned!
